Big update for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants 🇨🇦

As of March 30, 2026, provinces and territories now have greater authority in assessing PNP candidates.

Under new regulatory changes, two key responsibilities have shifted from the federal government to provincial and territorial governments. Moving forward, they will be solely responsible for determining:

• Whether applicants genuinely intend to live in the nominating province or territory
• Whether applicants have the ability to become economically established in Canada

These changes apply to all new and existing PNP applications that have not yet reached the eligibility stage—regardless of when they were submitted.

Important Canadian Citizenship Update – Effective Today (December 15, 2025)

The Government of Canada has brought Bill C-3 (An Act to Amend the Citizenship Act) into force, modernizing Canadian citizenship law to better reflect how Canadian families live—both in Canada and abroad.

Under the new rules, individuals born before December 15, 2025, who would have been Canadian citizens but for the first-generation limit or other outdated provisions, are now recognized as Canadian citizens and may apply for proof of citizenship.

Looking ahead, the legislation also establishes a clearer and more consistent path for future generations. A Canadian parent who was born or adopted abroad can now pass on citizenship to a child born or adopted outside Canada, as long as the parent can show at least three years of physical presence in Canada before the child’s birth or adoption.

These changes promote fairness for Canadian families abroad while reaffirming that meaningful connections to Canada remain central to citizenship by descent.
