We’ve been asked frequently about the areas of law we practice, so this month, we’re sharing real examples of how Sway Law can be of service!

Motions play a crucial role in legal proceedings—they can shape the outcome of a case before it even reaches trial. They help clarify issues, resolve disputes, and test the strength of legal arguments.

In Parent v. Simpson, 2025 ONSC 1322, our civil litigation lawyer, Latania Dyer, successfully argued to have the appeal quashed. The court found that the appellant’s case raised no genuine questions of law and was simply an attempt to relitigate the dispute. This case highlights how motions help streamline the judicial process and ensure that only valid legal issues move forward.

At Sway Law, our paralegals take the lead in initiating cases before Boards, Tribunals, and Small Claims Court, while our appellate lawyer steps in when appeals are warranted. It takes strategy, collaboration, and experience at every stage of litigation.
