Canada continues to accept permanent and temporary residence applications and adapt processes
Canada is providing more time for some applicants to submit immigration documents.

Canada continues to accept pr and tr applications Canada is taking steps to continue to attract global talent from around the world during a time of global efforts to contain the corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Canada’s federal and provincial governments operate more than 80 economic class immigration pathways today, plus many more pathways for those who arrive under the family or refugee classes, as well as international students, foreign workers, and visitors. The federal government also announced today that its regularly scheduled bi-weekly Express Entry draw did, in fact, take place on Wednesday, March 18.

In recent days, Canada has announced special measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19, as well as to help those interested in moving to Canada as permanent residents or remaining in Canada as temporary residents.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), individuals are still welcome to continue to submit their Express Entry profiles and permanent residence applications. It is also being more lenient towards temporary residence applicants.

IRCC has stated that it will not refuse applications for non-compliance and it will continue to process applications that are in progress at its case processing centres in Canada and around the world.

Canada now operates more than 80 economic class immigration programs—the most in its history
In 2020, Canada will welcome nearly 200,000 economic class immigrants through over 80 programs. Even if they do not meet recent Express Entry cut-off scores, there are several important reasons why candidates should still apply for immigration to Canada.

Four reasons candidates should submit an Express Entry application even if they don’t meet the current CRS cut-off

First, it is not possible to predict CRS cut-offs. By submitting an Express Entry application candidates give themselves a chance to receive an ITA in the event that the federal government reduces the CRS cut-off.

Second, through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), provinces and territories can nominate immigration candidates who have submitted Express Entry applications (known as “enhanced” nominations). In practice, this means that candidates who fall short of the federal CRS cut-off may still obtain an ITA for permanent residence if they meet the selection criteria of a province or territory.

Third, candidates can work on improving their CRS score after they submit their Express Entry application. They can take steps to improve their English and/or French language proficiency, obtain more work experience, pursue education or work experience in Canada, and seek to obtain a Canadian job offer or provincial nomination.

Fourth, immigration candidates should look beyond Express Entry by taking note of the fact that Canada now offers more economic class immigration pathways than at any time in its history. Express Entry is an important component of Canada’s immigration system, accounting for 42 per cent of the country’s economic class admissions.

On the other hand, Express Entry only manages three of the country’s economic class pathways: The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class Program.

This means that more than 80 additional economic class pathways are available to those interested in moving to Canada.
