100 Years ago, Torontonians would order their homes in parts and build it themselves with the help of friends and family for about $25,000 in todays dollars (2023 - adjusted for inflation). Let that sink in.

1916 Sears catalog home. They shipped the entire house to you by railroad car. Sears was like Ikea before Ikea.

Friends and family would come from all around to help the owner build it.

Most were built in New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Sears sold more than 70,000 mail-order homes between 1908 and 1940. Some enthusiasts estimate that about 70% of Sears houses are still standing today.

Sears provided building plans and specifications, along with the lumber and any other materials needed. The shipment included everything from nails, screws, and paint to prebuilt building parts, such as staircases and dining nooks.

Tonight brings in the start of  - a new year on the Jewish calendar #5782. It's a time of personal reflection of the year that has passed and the special moments and blessings we've had and shared.

While the past years have had many challenges, I am thankful for the blessings of my loving family and friends, for the blessings of good health and a positive mindset, for my supportive business partners/associates, and the many blessings and challenges that have helped me grow to where I am today.

I am coming into this new year with new goals, renewed strength and a fresh beginning to write a new chapter in my life and contribute positively to the chapters of the people in my life 🙏🏼❤️💪

This is a trend we'll be seeing for some time as immigration opens again, vaccinations take effect, inflation concerns arise paired with low interest rates, a chronic housing supply shortage and a massive deficiency in new housing starts (new construction). Pricing has increased an average of 7% year-over-year the past 40 years and in the double-digits over the past 10 years. This new forecast for the GTA is just a glimpse of the years to come.

Homes in the GTA will likely cost even more by the end of 2021 than was previously predicted, according to a new report from TRREB.
