Do you have a Work Permit in Canada? Then keep an eye on your email!

This Wednesday, September 9, IRCC officially announced a new temporary measure for workers who are already in Canada.

Under the new policy, eligible Work Permit holders will be able to study for up to 6 months without having to apply for a Study Permit.

IRCC also announced that it will begin notifying eligible workers by email this week. The goal is to make it easier for temporary workers to access short-term courses, training, education, and professional qualifications while continuing to work in Canada.

The authorization will be valid for up to 6 months or until the Work Permit expires, whichever comes first. The measure will remain in effect until December 31, 2027.

PS: Important: IRCC also clarified that full-time studies will still require a Study Permit, okay? In addition, this measure does not create a new pathway to come to Canada. In other words, it is intended for eligible temporary workers who are already in the country.

Yesterday, August 28th, was my birthday! 🎂

And I feel incredibly happy and grateful for everything I’ve accomplished and for how far I’ve come.

But 44-year-old Marilene didn’t get here by luck.

It took a series of decisions, plans, fears, and a strong determination to make things happen.

It meant not being afraid of the unknown—or of taking risks.

It meant wanting something deeply and doing everything within my reach to achieve my goals: living abroad, building a stable life, and becoming a respected professional in my field.

And you? Do you already know what you want for your life?

Do you dream of studying abroad? Living abroad?

Building a better life in another country, with more security and opportunities?

I once dreamed of everything that is now my reality.

And if I did it, you can too.

It won’t happen overnight. It won’t come without fear, risk, sacrifice, tears, or investment.

But I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN—BECAUSE IT WAS WORTH IT! ❤️

Two changes came into effect in August 2026, and they may provide greater flexibility for small businesses and workers awaiting an LMIA decision.

The first change affects businesses with fewer than 10 employees at certain work locations. The cap on temporary foreign workers in low-wage positions is now calculated per work location, which may benefit businesses with multiple smaller locations.

The second change extends the deadline from 60 to 90 days to submit a pending LMIA or CAQ to IRCC for certain work permit extension applications.

However, this deadline does not automatically apply to every case. Specific requirements must be met, including having a work permit that expires in two weeks or less and providing proof that a complete LMIA application has already been submitted.

As always, the details make all the difference! Before applying, it is essential to understand whether you qualify under the new rules.
