On May 28, 2026, the Supreme Court of Canada (the “Court”) in Wolastoqey Nation at Welamukotuk (Oromocto First Nation), et al. v. J.D. Irving Limited, et al. dismissed:
1) the motion filed by Quw’utsun (Cowichan) Nation for leave to intervene; and
2) the application for leave to appeal from the judgment of the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick, Numbers 113-24-CA, 114-24-CA & 115-24-CA, 2025 NBCA 129, dated December 11, 2025.
The Court provided no reasons. Despite certain reports by the media, the Court did not decide whether Aboriginal title can be declared over private lands across Canada. For that decision we may need to wait until the Cowichan case, or a similar case, is heard and decided by the Court. Until then private lands in British Columbia may be subject to declarations of Aboriginal title, while private lands in New Brunswick, currently, are not.

My reflections from the Vancouver Web Summit:
Attending Vancouver Web Summit was a great opportunity to see how global innovation, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology are converging in one place. One of the standout moments for me was the masterclass featuring Lithuanian companies, which offered practical and insightful perspectives on building and scaling startups.
I also appreciated the reception for the Lithuanian delegation organized by Michaels Sileika and MNP, which created a valuable space for meaningful conversations and new connections. Throughout the summit, I was struck by the energy of the startup community, the many inspiring presentations from emerging companies, and the strong presence of younger professionals, many of whom appeared to be in their 30s and actively shaping the future of the industry.
Another clear theme across the event was the predominance of AI in discussions, showcases, and strategic conversations. At the same time, I found the geopolitical discussions especially interesting, as they added important context to how technology, markets, and global collaboration are evolving. Overall, the summit was an inspiring reminder that innovation today is not only about building new products, but also about understanding the broader forces shaping our world.
