Based on info on wireless providers websites, there is currently no mm wave 5G in Canada. The US sites advertise mm 5G but have disclaimers that say coverage is limited to some areas.

FYI - according to a VERY informed contact of mine, the mm wave technology worked in the lab (with problems) and is failing spectacularly in the field.

Has anyone spoken to anyone or met anyone who 'downloaded a movie in seconds' or accessed mm wave transmitters and bandwidth as advertised?

Informative article on 5G specific to the iPhone 12 but lots of other deployment info.

Re 5G satellites, has anyone asked any in the wireless industry what kind of signalling method is going to be used? Land based 5G will use high frequency millimetre waves which have a very limited range and will almost certainly have health consequences.

SpaceX is deploying 5G satellites which will operate at a low-Earth-orbit altitude of about 342 miles. If the 5G terrestrial frequencies have a limited range of between 500 to 1000 feet then it's not possible that the frequencies will be able to travel from space to earth let alone beyond their limited range. Couple that with the highly unstable nature of millimetre waves where trees, clouds, precipitation, walls, windows etc degrade the signal.

I have heard from someone high up on our emf advocacy side that the land to space and back signalling will be point to point laser technology as it's the only one that can carry large amounts of data that distance.

I have known about this since late last year and it's time for us to be narrowing down what the technology will be and if there are any associated health issues.

I realized that we already have a big problem on the ground - I'm trying to see if what's up in the sky will be problematic or not.

This is potentially good news for all of us if point-to-point laser the may deploy is a relatively "safe" technology.
