e. We know our law, our lawyers care about your case and we will stop at nothing to make sure you are safely taken to the next chapter of your life with maximized results and minimized damage. Leena Yousefi established YLaw Group with a simple goal in mind:

paying attention to the client and not just the law; and
creating and arguing law in favour of the client not the other way around. Her team are the best hand-picked and highly talented staff and family lawyers, eager to take on complex medium to high-net worth family law cases in Vancouver and BC. At YLaw Group, we relate to our clients on a personal level and do not treat them as mere numbers. We have morning meetings in which we talk about every client’s case and ensure we keep the clients up-to-date through every step of the litigation. We only know quality and do not believe in quantity when we deal with our client’s cases because each case is unique and deserves its own attention, nurturing and time. We do not cut corners and ensure an absolute perfect representation of the client’s rights in Court or settlement meetings. We encourage reasonable settlements but are known as some of the most aggressive lawyers in family law when same is necessary. Our success rate and awards speak for themselves and we are eager to help you through your journeys whatever they may be. We believe in you choosing the right family lawyer for your case. If we are lucky enough to meet you one day, we would love to show you how we would strategize your case, make sure you are effectively represented, and how we would obtain the best results possible for you. We were truly honoured to host the CABL BC Black History Month Art Exhibition in February.

The evening was a seamless celebration of art, culture, and community. From the moment guests arrived, the space was filled with laughter, meaningful conversation, and a shared appreciation for connection.

Local artists and musicians brought the night to life with incredible showcases of talent, including a live painting and music performance that captured the energy in the room. Drinks were flowing, new connections were formed, and the sense of community was undeniable.

We are grateful to have partnered with CABL BC for such a special event and look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate in the future.

Mediation isn’t one-size-fits-all, which is what makes it so effective.

Justin Murphy, family lawyer and mediator at YLaw, explains what mediation can really look like in practice. Mediation is designed to meet people where they’re at. This can range from how sessions are structured, to how flexible the process can be depending on the family and the issues involved.

Whether parties are working through property division, parenting arrangements, or other family law issues, mediation can provide a more collaborative, cost-effective, and solutions-focused alternative to court.

Understanding how mediation works is often the first step toward resolving disputes with less conflict and more control over the outcome.

⚠️Hiring your first employee?

Hiring your first employee is exciting but even one legal mistake can cost you thousands. These are three things about employment law that every employer needs to understand before making their first hire.

Salary isn’t the full cost. Beyond wages, employers are responsible for CPP, EI, benefits, and insurance. If cash flow becomes an issue, you may be able to terminate employment — but you can’t simply stop paying someone.

Misclassifying workers carries serious legal risk. Calling someone a “contractor” doesn’t make them one. If you control their schedule, location, equipment, or prevent subcontracting, BC law will likely treat them as an employee. Misclassification can lead to liability for years of back taxes, CPP, and EI.

If it isn’t written down, it didn’t happen. Courts rely on documentation and without emails, performance reviews, or written warnings, a “for cause” termination is far more likely to be found unfair.

If you’re being bullied or harassed at work, what you do next matters more than you think.

Many workplace harassment claims fall apart, not because the harassment didn’t happen, but because it wasn’t properly documented. WorkSafeBC has a specific legal definition of bullying and harassment and you need evidence that meets it. Every incident should include the date, time, and location, exactly what was said or done, who witnessed it, and how it affected your work or well-being.

Our latest blog post explains what employees in BC need to document when facing workplace harassment and the common mistakes to avoid.
