Farris will be hosting two tours this summer for students entering their second year of law school who were not able to attend an organized school tour. The tours are scheduled for June 24 at 2 PM and July 9 at 2 PM at our Vancouver office. We have 25 spots available for each tour, and snacks will be provided.

We request that students sign up for only one tour and only if they did not already visit us on their school tour, as this will be a similar experience. If the 25-seat maximum is reached for either tour, students will be placed on a waitlist and will receive an email confirming their waitlist status.

JES is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering people to access and deliver justice in Canada and globally. Camp Justice is a week-long summer “boot camp” where high school students with an interest in law, social justice or a legal career can build legal capabilities while learning about the law in a fun environment. Campers will watch court, learn to negotiate and receive guidance from legal professionals on a variety of legal skills. Farris was pleased to host the 2025 AIDV Wine Law Conference at our Vancouver office on June 12th. The conference brought together leading voices in the wine industry, covering trends in trade, regulation, business and tourism outlooks, public health, and wine culture in both the Canadian and international contexts. Farris lawyer, Megan O'Neill, who sits on the Canadian Board of Directors of AIDV, chaired a panel discussion on internal and international barriers to wine trade, featuring Jeff Guignard, the newly appointed CEO of Wine Growers British Columbia. Other highlights of this year’s conference included a presentation by Adam Beak, Head of BMO’s Wine & Spirits Division, speaking to the findings of BMO’s second annual Wine Market. David Hume, Deputy Minister and General Manager of the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch and Erin McEwen, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Administrative Officer of the BC Liquor Distribution Branch, also presented on recent regulatory developments impacting the sector.

Megan’s article, “Does Canada’s Registered Charity Regime Survive Charter Scrutiny?: The Interplay Between Charities, Politics, and Freedom of Expression Following Canada Without Poverty“, reviews the constitutionality of the restrictions on political expression by charities imposed by the Income Tax Act (Canada) against s. 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and grapples with questions regarding the role of charities in our society.
