From serving on FACL BC’s first board as an articling student… to sponsoring the 14th annual gala with my small-but-mighty practice.

A full-circle moment with people who’ve been part of my journey from the very start.

Setting up a Personal Real Estate Corporation (and Holding Company) doesn’t have to be complicated. When a client came to us needing both companies set up quickly and efficiently, we got it done (in just ONE week!).

We kept things simple, broke down the process, and made sure everything was legally sound and structured properly. And most importantly, we made sure She felt supported every step of the way.

Thinking about setting up your Personal Real Estate Corporation (and potentially add a Holding Company)? Let’s make it happen. Link in bio.

Hello hi! 👋 It’s been awhile... (okay, more like two years 🙈), so I thought it was about time to properly re-introduce myself, especially since so this community has grown so much!

I’m Julia, the lawyer behind Julia Lin Law. I’ve been a corporate lawyer since 2011, and started my virtual firm in 2019 after hearing over and over from business owners that law was complicated, intimidating, and something they just had to deal with. I wanted to change that.

What we do isn't just about reviewing your contracts or setting up companies. We want to make sure our clients feel supported and empowered in building what matters most to them. And in a way that feels simple, straightforward, and designed to actually fit their world.

When I’m not lawyering, you can probably find me hanging out with Niku, my 3.5 y/o Cavapoo 🐶 , exploring new food spots around the city, or planning my next adventure.

Thanks for being here. 🫶 If you’re building something meaningful and want to do it right, let’s chat. Link’s in the bio.

Contracts are meant to protect you, but not every contract actually does. I’ve seen so many agreements with vague language, missing details, or just plain risky terms. And honestly? Some of them could’ve been avoided with a little extra attention.

From unclear payment terms to sloppy non-compete clauses, these are red flags I keep seeing over and over again. And if you’re running a business, spotting these issues early can save you a ton of stress (and money).

Swipe through to see what to look out for and how to make sure your contracts are actually working for you.

Have you seen any of these red flags before? 👀

A common thing I see? Business owners who incorporate but have 𝗻𝗼 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁.

You’ve got the official company name, the paperwork (hopefully! if you incorporated through a law firm), the share structure, but now what? That’s where a lot of people get stuck. If you don’t put the right pieces in place after, you’re leaving yourself open to unnecessary risks.

For example, mixing personal and business finances is one of the most common (and costly) mistakes. You MUST have a separate bank account for your company, period.

Or, not having proper contracts in place. Your business structure may have changed, but are your agreements actually protecting you under that entity? If they were written before you incorporated and not updated since, they probably don’t.

Incorporation is a smart move, but only if you follow through on the next steps.

March is Women's Month, reminding us to prioritize something we too often overlook: our own health and well-being.

A big thank you to Kelly Ho of DLD Financial Group for inviting me to the Illuminations Luncheon.

At the event, we were encouraged to advocate for our health boldly, especially in our overburdened health system. Saying "there's a bit of discomfort", is not good enough, but being able to loudly declare "I AM IN PAIN."

This hit home for me, and took me back to an ER visit at Mount Saint Joseph's during a rough time in my life where I was getting multiple kidney infections. The triage nurse told me to make sure the (male) doctor understood that my pain was a real 10, not a mild 6 or 7, because often, our pain isn't understood or taken as seriously as it should be.

And yet, despite women making up more than half the population, less than 6% of Canada’s national health research funding is devoted to our unique health needs. This stark gap underscores the vital importance of the work being done to push these conversations forward.

Here's to empowering each other to voice our pain, to advocate for our well-being, and may there be good things to come 🩷

Deciding to incorporate your business is a big decision that depends on many factors. It’s not just about the money you’re making but also how much of it you’re saving and reinvesting.

For some businesses, limiting personal liability is the driving factor. For others, it’s about positioning themselves for growth. Whatever the reason, incorporation is most effective when it aligns with your goals and financial habits.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but having the right guidance can help you make the decision with confidence. If you’re considering incorporation, let’s talk through your options.

Our year in numbers... and what a year it’s been... 💛

When I look back on 2024, it’s impossible not to feel overwhelmed with gratitude. Every client, every milestone, every small win added up to something truly special.

This year, we celebrated 5 years since the start of this little law firm, assisted more businesses than ever before, sponsored our first big real estate event and refreshed our branding. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it because of the trust you’ve placed in us.

To our amazing clients, my team, and business partners – THANK YOU. Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and support each other in 2025. Let’s make it the best year yet.
