The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot exists to provide eligible temporary foreign workers in the sector with a pathway to Canadian permanent residence.

You need at least 12 months of full-time, non-seasonal Canadian work experience in the Temporary Foreign Worker Program in one of the eligible occupations to apply for the pilot. Feel free to drop in a message to know more about this program and it’s application process!

We’ve talked about the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) a lot in the past few posts but this week we’ll delve deeper into it.

A LMIA depicts the need for a foreign worker to fill a job role due to the unavailability of a Canadian/Permanent.

LMIA applications are assessed to validate the legitimacy of the business, the job offer and the impact of hiring a temporary foreign worker on the Canadian labor market.

As of April 4, 2022, employers submitting an LMIA application for a high-wage position can request an employment duration of up to 3 years. The employment duration must align with the employer’s employment needs.

If after applying you decide you want to apply under a different stream, you will need to cancel your original application and reapply under the new stream.

A foreign national in Canada with a visitor status can apply for a job offer-supported work permit from within Canada. This temporary public policy came into effect on August 24, 2020 and is being extended until February 28, 2023. Submission of the work permit application by a visitor is sufficient to meet the public policy eligibility for applying.⁠

Applicants must submit a complete employer-specific work permit application, including a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or LMIA-exempt offer of employment and, if applicable, a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).⁠
