Some work permit holders already in Canada can now pursue short-term studies without applying for a separate study permit.

Under a new temporary measure, eligible workers with a valid work permit may study without a study permit for up to six months, or until their work permit expires, whichever comes first. This can be useful for people pursuing professional licensing, certifications, or additional training.

The study period cannot extend beyond the existing work permit, and full-time studies may affect how work experience is counted for certain immigration programs.

It depends on the circumstances. A move to another city, province, or country can affect parenting schedules, school, travel, expenses, and the child’s relationship with the other parent.

Performance, environmental, pricing, origin, testimonial, and endorsement claims can all raise compliance questions. For businesses advertising in both Canada and the United States, the challenge is that Canadian Competition Act requirements and U.S. FTC standards are not identical.

Following the failed Hungarian Revolution against Soviet occupation in 1956, more than 37,000 Hungarian refugees were welcomed to Canada. They began new lives here, building families and communities while carrying their culture, traditions and heritage with them.

Sixty years later, their journey was brought to life in Toronto with the Tunnel Through Time.

The installation was created using 37,565 pieces, representing the Hungarian refugees welcomed to Canada. At one end was the symbol of the Hungarian Revolution. At the other was a Canadian maple leaf.

Between them was a journey from one home to another.

Now, 70 years after the Revolution, that story continues through generations of Hungarian Canadians. This October, as we recognize Hungarian Heritage Month in Ontario, Pace Law Firm honours that journey and celebrates the Hungarian culture, history and community that continue to thrive today.

Updating your will does not necessarily mean every beneficiary designation has been updated with it.

RRSPs, TFSAs, life insurance policies, and other accounts may have beneficiaries named directly on the plan or policy. Depending on how and when those designations were made, they may operate independently of, or interact with, the instructions in your will.

That can create unintended results after major life changes. Marriage, separation, divorce, the death of a beneficiary, or changes in family relationships are valid reasons to review both your will and your beneficiary designations together.

Estate planning works best when the documents tell the same story.
