🏦 Bank of Canada Rate Drop — What It Means for You

The Bank of Canada just announced another drop in the policy (overnight) rate.
👉 This mainly benefits people with variable-rate mortgages — your interest costs could go down slightly as lenders adjust their prime rates.

If you’re on a fixed-rate mortgage, this change doesn’t affect you right now.

Should I lock in my variable rate if the bank is offering 3.89% or 3.94% for a 3- or 5-year term?

Answer:
That’s a personal decision only you can make — but here’s some insight:
• If you have comfortable cash flow, it may be wise to wait and see how rates move by December.
• If you’re feeling tight financially, then do the math — locking in could give peace of mind even if rates drop a little more.

Always speak with your trusted mortgage specialist or broker and run your own numbers before deciding.

Realistically, rates likely won’t return to ultra-low levels. The best-case scenario might be around 3.5% — similar to 2018 levels.
