Common-law open work permit approved. Client was out of status after a refusal for insufficient proof of relationship, so the new application went in with restoration. 12+ months living together, documents to prove it, everything explained with complete honesty. About 6 months, not one extra document requested. If you are applying as a common-law partner, be honest and be very clear on your proof of relationship.

IRCC does not accept the word “full-time” in your employment reference letter. The letter must state the actual number of hours you worked per week. No number, no way for the officer to count your experience. Check every reference letter before you submit your Express Entry application.

A dummy work permit can get refused, but it cannot get you banned. A ban only comes from misrepresentation under section 40 of IRPA, which means giving false information or hiding facts that matter. Asking for more time with weak grounds is an honest request, not a lie. Fake job offers and fake employer letters are what earn the five year ban.
