Spousal sponsorship processing times have exceeded 24 months. But that is only if you apply inland. You can apply outland without leaving Canada and cut 9 months off your wait.

Ottawa announced a 66% jump in PNP for 2026. Sounds like the door is wide open again. It is not.

That 66% refers to the number of people IRCC plans to land as permanent residents this year under PNP. The target went from 55,000 to 91,500. But most of those people were already nominated in 2024 and 2025. They are just now getting their PR applications processed.

The actual nomination allocation your province received for 2026, meaning the number of new certificates they can hand out this year, barely changed.

Alberta: 6,403. Same as the end of 2025.
Saskatchewan: 4,761. Same as the end of 2025.
Manitoba: 6,239. Same as the end of 2025.
British Columbia: 5,254. Down from 6,214 at the end of 2025.

The 31% increase everyone is reporting is measured against the slashed January 2025 allocations, not where provinces actually ended the year after mid-year top-ups.

If you are on a work permit right now and PNP is your only pathway to PR, this is your sign to start looking at alternatives.

The headline went up. The seats did not.

IRCC updated their stacking policy a while back and it is still catching people off guard. If you are on maintained status and planning to apply for your Bridging Open Work Permit after you get your AOR, this directly affects you. The same IRCC website that tells you maintained status qualifies for a bridging also has a stacking rule that can get your application refused on the spot. I had a client go through this exact situation. Refusal letter and everything. If it happens to you, you have 90 days from the date you lost status to apply for restoration and the bridging at the same time. But the cleanest way to avoid this entirely is to have your AOR before your current permit expires and apply for the bridging while your status is still valid.

IRCC has just released its latest processing numbers, and we are seeing some of the biggest wait-time movements of the year. Depending on where you are applying from, your timeline may have just changed completely. 🌍

Here are the critical highlights you need to know:
📉 Huge Wins for India & Pakistan: Parent and Grandparent Super Visa wait times dropped sharply—declining by 43 days for India and 32 days for Pakistan! Pakistan study permits also dropped by an entire month.

📈 Major Slowdown for Nigeria: Work permit processing times have doubled overnight, skyrocketing from 6 weeks up to 12 weeks.

🇺🇸 US Super Visa Creep: Applicants from the US saw Super Visa timelines climb by nearly two weeks (now at 115 days).

⚖️ Visitor Visas Creeping Up: Most countries saw minor delays, with wait times increasing across the board by 1 to 5 days.

You do not need a TEF or TCF to get a Francophone Mobility work permit.

IRCC accepts any credible proof that your French is at a CLB 5 level in speaking and listening. Our client used class enrollment records, class notes, and a letter from their language centre. No standardized test. Approved.

The rule is open. The officer decides what is convincing. And if they are not satisfied, they will call you and speak with you in French directly.

So the real question was never about the test.
