Day 2 of brought valuable insights into Canadians’ views on the country’s future and the challenges of homeownership. David Coletto, Founder, Chair and CEO of Abacus Data, shared perspectives on how Canadians feel about their prospects of owning a home. We also heard from the Honourable Wayne Long, Secretary of State (Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions), and an urban planning panel exploring how cities can fund growth and measure housing progress.

FVREB also held productive meetings with the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State (International Development), and MP Gurbux Saini to discuss housing-related priorities.

The day concluded with the Parliamentary Reception, where we connected with MPs Ernie Klassen, Randeep Sarai and Gurbux Saini.

Day 1 of brought political insights, data analysis and global perspectives on housing. Members received a briefing on the political climate and statistics analysis before hearing from Lyse Doucet, BBC Chief International Correspondent and senior presenter, on what home means to people around the world. She shared how the death of 87-year-old María del Carmen Abascal in Spain sparked nationwide protests and helped trigger a snap election, underscoring the profound role housing plays in people’s lives.

The day wrapped up with FVREB members reconnecting with colleagues from across the country.

At recent municipal candidates’ forums in Langley City, Surrey and Mission, candidates discussed housing affordability, infrastructure, development costs and ways to speed up building permits.
From transit connections and housing supply to development fees and industrial land, the discussions highlighted the challenges of accommodating growth while ensuring communities have the infrastructure they need.

These forums mark the end of FVREB’s sponsored all-candidates meetings for this municipal election.

Thank you to our community partners for helping bring candidates and residents together to discuss local housing issues.

📊 More choice and softer prices are giving Fraser Valley homebuyers options, but buyers remain cautious.

New listings increased 19% from August, while the sales-to-active listings ratio dipped further into a buyer’s market in September. Despite more choice, overall demand remains subdued.
