⭐What are some ETFs to invest in?🚀

I have had a few Money Coaching clients ask what I personally invest in.

This is my opinion not investment advice.

My favourites that I invest in to date.

💲VFV - Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF 🟰 it tracks the 500 largest US companies and 92% of fund managers can't beat it.

💲XEQT - iShares Core Equity ETF Portfolio (All-In-One) 🟰 it holds 8,377 stocks which makes up US 45%, Canada 25%, International 25% and Emerging Markets 5%.

💲QQQM - Investco Nasdaq 100 ETF 🟰 this tracks the top 100 largest domestic and international NON-FINANCIAL companies listed on the Nasdaq. Weighted towards tech stocks.

💲SPMO - Invesco S&P 500 Momentum ETF (Fund) is based on the S&P 500 Momentum Index (Index). Active growth fund.

💲SCHD - Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF 🟰 US High Dividend Yield.

85% of the portfolio is in Growth and 15% is in Dividend.

I invested a sum of money in these at the start and now every month I dollar cost average ( I buy a certain amount of shares every month). My goal is to keep buying shares every month no matter if these ETFs is up or down and hold for another 15 ish years (compounding).

***** I am curious to know what you invest in, let me know in the comments. *****

⭐Investing In ETFs❓

📈 What is an ETF? Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) allow investors to purchase a variety of different stocks and/or bonds at once. They are often programmed with an algorithm to track market sectors. ETFs have lower fees than mutual funds, and they can be bought and sold throughout the day. There are 1000s of ETFs, which allows investors to find specific niches or broad categories to invest in.

➡ An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is an investment fund that holds a basket of individual stocks, government bonds, corporate bonds, or other securities — all in one purchase. ETFs trade on stock exchanges, offering broader diversification than owning a single stock.

Types of ETFs ❓ ETFs that mirror indices like the stock or bond market have attracted the most investment from individual investors. Canada's stock market is heavily weighted toward the financial sector, but you'll find plenty of industrial, material, and energy companies on the list, too.

➡ One popular approach is an ETF that seeks to mirror the S&P 500, an index of the 500 publicly traded American companies with the highest market capitalisations. The S&P 500, or other large indexes like the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the NASDAQ-100.

⭐Can YOU or an Active Fund Managers beat the MARKET?
- over a 10 -20 year period only 10% of Active Fund Managers can beat the market
- fewer than 10% of individual investors can beat the market. *****What makes you think you can? ⭐

➡ The best strategy is pick a few ETFs based on your risk tolerance level. Deploy 1️⃣ Lump Sum - investing all of your available money at once rather than spreading it out over time. OR 2️⃣ Dollar Cost Averaging - putting your cash into the market according to a predetermined schedule, regardless of whether prices are up or down. OR 3️⃣ deploy both LUMP SUM and then every month Dollar Cost Average. Then let it compound for years 🚀💲.

🟰 let's work on an example with the S&P 500 average return over 40 years of 11.2%.

1 Lump Sum only investing $10,000 holding it for 30 years. You would return $242,000.
2 Dollar Cost Averaging $500 a month for 20 years but holding the investment for 30 years. You would return $1.37 million.
3 Lump Sum of $10,000 and Dollar Cost Averaging $500 a month for 20 years but holding the investment for 30 years. You would return $1.64 million.
The Power of investing and compound interest.

📈 Self-Directed Investing, or Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investing❓

➡ building and managing your own investment portfolio directly through an online brokerage without an advisor or robo-advisor

➡ this approach lowers management fees but requires you to handle your own research, ex*****on, and portfolio rebalancing

1️⃣ To get started, you will need to open a self-directed account with an online discount brokerage 🏦
- Wealthsimple - user friendly
- Questrade - user friendly
- Interactive Brokers - more advanced trader
- Canada's Big 6 Banks (RBC, TD, ScotiaBank, BMO, CIBC, National bank) - all have pros and cons
- And many more

⭐ When choosing a platform, what are you going to use it for, consider factors like fees, investment options, user experience and customer support.

2️⃣ What type of account(s) are you going to open up within the brokerage?
- TFSA
- RRSP
- FHSA
- RESP
- Non Registered Investment Account

3️⃣ Once you choose the type of investment accounts you are going to open up within the Online Brokerage, its now time to start thinking about what you are going to invest in?

➖ Stocks: Buying fractional or whole shares in individual companies

➖ ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds): Baskets of stocks or bonds that track a specific index (e.g., the S&P 500). Many Canadian DIY investors favor broad-market, all-in-one ETFs to simplify diversification

➖ Mutual Funds & Bonds: Pre-packaged funds or fixed-income products

⭐ maybe you want a mix of individual Stocks, ETFs and Bonds depending on your risk tolerance.

💥 for myself in my Self Directed Account I currently own approx 15 stocks and 6 ETFs
💥 my favourite strategy is dollar cost averaging ETFs - buying a certain amount of shares each month. my goal is long term / risky investing and I will be buying shares monthly no matter if the shares are high or low for that particular month.
💥 I currently use Interactive Brokers as my Online Brokerage - only cause I do some day / swing trading periodically and its a more advanced platform.
💥 I have heard many good things about Wealthsimple and Questrade. Maybe one day I will make the switch.
If you have any questions regarding Self Directed Investing, the different Online Brokerages and the different Account Types to set up or what Stocks / ETFs I invest in, feel free to reach out.

May 2026 Housing Market Stats are out.

A modest increase in Fraser Valley home sales in May suggests buyers remain engaged, albeit cautiously as economic uncertainty continues to temper the pace of the spring market.

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board recorded 1,124 sales on its Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in May, a 0.5 per cent increase from April, but five per cent below the same month last year. Single-family homes remained the most active segment of the Fraser Valley market in May, generating more sales than townhouses and apartments.

⭐2026 CRA TAX REFUND⭐

➡ Make the most of your 2026 tax refund with smart strategies to pay down debt and build savings, so every dollar works harder for your financial future.

➡ For many Canadians, a tax refund feels like a bonus—a bit of extra cash that shows up each spring. In reality, it’s your own money being returned after a year of overpaying taxes.

➡ Recent survey data shows many Canadians aren’t treating their refund as bonus spending money. About 40% of those surveyed say they need it to help cover rising living costs, while another 28% plan to use it for everyday essentials. For many households, that tax refund isn’t extra—it’s already spoken for.

1️⃣ Pay down high-interest debt

➖ If you’re carrying a balance on a credit card or payday loan, this is usually the most effective place to put your refund. These debts have high interest rates, meaning the longer you carry them, the more you’ll pay. Credit Card interest rates can be as high as 25%.

2️⃣ Catch up on essential bills

➖ If you’re behind on rent, utilities, or other bills, using your refund to catch up can prevent things from escalating. Late fees and interest add up fast, and missed payments can lead to collections. Getting current helps stabilize your finances and gives you more breathing room in your budget.

3️⃣ Build or top up an emergency

➖ Building an emergency fund can feel out of reach, especially when living costs are high. But you don’t need to start with three to six months of expenses in the bank—you can work up to that. Even just having a few hundred dollars saved can help cover an unexpected bill without relying on credit.

4️⃣ Invest in your future

➖ If your debt is under control and your bills are up to date, consider putting some of your refund towards long-term goals. Contributing to a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP), tax-free savings account (TFSA), or first home savings account (FHSA) can help you build savings in a tax-efficient way.
