Chris Dunsmore.
On behalf of the GVR Law and Bobb Family, we announce the passing of our family member, friend and colleague, Chris Dunsmore.
Chris has been connected to the Bobb family through his long friendship with my brother Lee Bobb, and later when he started working with me under “BOBBLAW” and then GVR Law.
He was truly one of a kind.
Chris was a lawyer for a number of years and went through a bit of a rough patch earlier in his career; he and I are about the same age.
He left the practice of law and never thought he would return to “lawyering”.
After I decided to establish my own law firm some years back, he and I sat down and I convinced him to at least try to make a comeback. We started him as a paralegal on a part-time basis to see how it went. At that time I just knew him as Lee’s friend to a large degree and I told my brother, if he messes up, it’s on you (jokingly)!
It became apparent to me that Chris was extremely intelligent and capable of returning to the practice of law. So he and I agreed to start the process of him becoming a lawyer again, which he did.
We went on to work on a number of cases together: strategizing and collaborating. We often debated about the law and argued who was right. I always declared myself the champion 😊.
Chris was extremely analytical and detailed. And I mean EXTREMELY. He left no stone unturned, and if you wanted someone to be thorough, it was him. It was one of his gifts.
He loved chatting with staff and others. I truly felt that the people in our firm were considered as close to family as he had. He wasn’t focused on relationships, had no children, and no family in the lower mainland. So he often liked to take time with people in the office about anything from politics to cases we were working on. He regularly spoke of his mother and how intelligent and caring she is.
We often called Chris, not Chris Dunsmore, but Chris “Does-more”. He had several catch phrases where he would write in the air with his finger, “DO……YOUR……JOB (and then say exclamation point)!
And if you were in your office, there was zero chance Chris wasn’t going to pop his head in and try and talk to you for as long as he could. He seemed to love the company, and every time, he would finish the conversation, walk out the office only to return seconds later to add some thoughts to what he just said.
He worked great with my sister Denise Bobb with whom he challenged much more than I ever did. He took the time to explain and help her, as well as other support staff. He was there to offer advice or help to everyone. Although when he was in court, look out. He knows and sees nothing else except the case he will be arguing about on that day. Laser focus is an understatement.
Chris had enormous compassion for people particularly his clients. He strongly advocated for each and every one of them inside and outside the courtroom. Many of his clients have expressed words of praise for him and the work that he did for them. He was a true advocate and lawyer, and a good human being.
It is a shock to us all that Chris is not with us anymore, but we will remember him. Who can forget him.
We won’t.
