✨Behind The Brand✨

This week, we're introducing you to Forest & Brooks candle co., a local candle company creating scents inspired by the places, seasons, and little moments that make a space feel like home

Behind the brand are Jess and Phil, who started Forest & Brooks in 2021 from a shared love of fragrance, design, and creating things together. What began with hand pouring candles from their home has grown into something much bigger, while still holding onto that same personal feeling that inspired them from the start.

For Jess and Phil, Forest & Brooks isn't just about making candles. It's given them the opportunity to build something that's completely their own and, along the way, meet so many wonderful people in the local community. From customers and fellow small business owners to retailers and new connections, some of their favourite parts of the journey have been the people they've met along the way.

One scent that's especially meaningful to them is Campfire. As outdoor lovers, it's a fragrance that feels close to home and reminds them of sitting around a fire with that familiar cozy feeling. It's been a part of the Forest & Brooks collection since day one, which makes it even more special to them.

Forest & Brooks has been a member of the Urban Market family since November 2022, and we’re happy to share their story with our community!

✨ Behind the Brand ✨

This week, we’re introducing you to Suyi, a local tea brand bringing high quality Japanese matcha and teas to Newfoundland 🍵

For Yvonne, it all started with a love for tea. After moving to Newfoundland, she realized she couldn’t find the quality Japanese matcha she was looking for locally, so she started bringing it in herself. A few months later, Suyi was born in 2024.

Alongside running Suyi, Yvonne is also a full-time PhD student in microbiology at MUN. When experiments aren’t going quite as planned, she gets to switch gears and focus on Suyi.

One of Yvonne’s favourite parts of running Suyi has been meeting people in the local business community, especially when she discovers that someone she’s talking to already drinks Suyi teas!

One of her favourite milestones was receiving her first reorder from a retail store. The first order was exciting, but seeing the products sell out and knowing the store wanted to bring them back made it feel like Suyi was really growing.

Suyi’s bestseller is their spring harvest ceremonial matcha from Kyoto. They also recently introduced Hojicha, a roasted tea that’s perfect for the cooler months.

Suyi has been part of the Urban Market family since 2025, and we’re proud to have them on our shelves!
