NOTICE TO NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR RESIDENTS IMPACTED BY THE POWERSCHOOL DATA BREACH

We have been contacted by individuals who have learned their, or their children’s, privacy was illegally breached in the December 2024 PowerSchool data breach.

We are investigating commencing a class action on behalf of Newfoundland and Labrador residents impacted by the December 2024 PowerSchool data breach.

PowerSchool is a student information system used by schools across Newfoundland and Labrador. In or around December 2024, PowerSchool experienced a cybersecurity breach involving unauthorized access to personal information stored in its systems.

The information that was unlawfully accessed included names, dates of birth, contact information, student identification numbers, school information, parent or guardian information, and other personal information of people who were students between 1995-2024. Similar information of teachers employed in the Provincial School system between 1995-2024 was also illegally accessed.

We are interested in hearing from Newfoundland and Labrador residents who were impacted by this breach, including students, former students, parents, guardians and teachers.

Do you remember eggs sold under brands like Compliments, Great Value, Nova Eggs, or Farmer John Eyking being recalled in fall 2020 due to a salmonella concern?

At the time, it was widely reported, and many people were checking their fridges and wondering if they had been affected. These eggs were supplied by Hilly Acres and sold under a number of common grocery store brands.

Our firm is acting in a class action relating to that recall. The case is already well underway, and we are now working to ensure that the full number of people impacted is properly accounted for as the matter moves toward resolution.

As often happens in situations like this, people continue to come forward over time—particularly those who were never tested or did not initially connect their illness to the recall.

If you or your family experienced a significant stomach illness in September to November 2020, especially around the time of the recall, we encourage you to come forward.

Common symptoms included:

Sudden vomiting and diarrhea
Fever or severe stomach pain
Illness lasting more than a day or two
You do not need a receipt or a confirmed diagnosis. Many affected individuals were never tested.

Our firm is investigating the viability of commencing a class action against Facebook and Instagram on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who were under 19 when they acquired Facebook or Instagram accounts, viewed and/or engaged with harmful content – including images and advertisements which promoted unrealistic body images, eating disorders and self-harm – and suffered injuries as a result.

Similar class actions have been filed throughout the United States and Canada, alleging that Facebook and Instagram purposefully implemented algorithms and other specific features designed to addict users to their platforms, despite their knowledge of the potential negative effects of addiction.

Bob Buckingham Law is acting in a certified class action on behalf of people who became ill from eating salmonella-contaminated eggs sold in Newfoundland and Labrador between October to December, 2020.

This egg recall was widely reported in the media at the time, and included eggs under the brands Compliments, No Name, Great Value, Maritime Pride, Nova Eggs, Nova Eggs Ultra, Farmer John Eyking and Eyking Delite.

Public health records indicate many more people were affected than have come forward so far.

If you or someone in your household was sick after eating eggs in the fall of 2020, you may have a legal claim.

You do not need confirmed diagnosis, a hospital admission; or to remember the brand of eggs.
