Being charged with a crime as a young person can feel overwhelming.

At Kurie Moore Law Group, we understand the unique challenges of youth criminal cases and the importance of protecting your child's future opportunities.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act treats young offenders differently than adults, focusing on rehabilitation and growth rather than punishment. Early legal representation is crucial to explore alternative measures, diversion programs, and solutions that minimize the impact on your child's future.

Our experienced youth criminal defense team works to:

- Protect your child's rights during police questioning
- Navigate the youth court system effectively
- Pursue options that can help protect their record
- Connect families with appropriate support services

We provide clear guidance to both parents and youth throughout the process, always focusing on rehabilitation and positive outcomes.

Remember: If your child has been charged with a crime or is being questioned by police, seek legal advice immediately. Early intervention can make a significant difference

Are you going through a divorce or separation in Alberta? Don't believe the myth that property is always divided equally. While an equal division of property is a starting point under the law, it's not always the end result.

The court may consider factors such as the length of the marriage, the contributions of each spouse, and the economic advantages or disadvantages of each spouse after the separation.

That's why it's important to have a skilled family law lawyer on your side to advocate for your interests and ensure that the property division is fair and appropriate in your circumstances.

Although parents want what's best for their children, they may not always see eye-to-eye on this issue during a divorce. When parents are unable to reach an agreement on child care arrangements, custody, or access, the courts will decide instead.

In cases like this, the courts will make judgments based on what is in the child's best interests. There are a lot of meanings to this term, so having a fundamental understanding of it might be useful.

The best interests of a child in Alberta include a child's happiness, as well as his or her emotional, physical, and psychological health. The following are some examples of these components:

- A history of parental violence or abuse
- A child's physical and emotional needs can be met by his or her parents.
- The existing connection between a youngster and each parent is considered. Is a kid close with his community and other family members?
- Is there a preference for the type of home? Are drug use concerns an issue in the household?
- The physical and mental health of each parent

The courts consider a number of criteria in making this decision, including the specific facts of each case and the child's age. When deciding custody, the court does not look at a number of things. The parents' gender and financial status are among them.

Criminal appeals in Alberta provide individuals who have been convicted of a crime with the opportunity to challenge their conviction or the severity of their sentence. When a person believes that errors were made during the original trial, they can seek a review by a higher court to rectify any legal mistakes or procedural irregularities.

In Alberta, criminal appeals are typically heard by the Alberta Court of Appeal, which serves as the appellate court for the region. This higher court reviews the decisions made in the lower courts and has the authority to uphold, overturn, or modify the original verdict and sentence.

To initiate a criminal appeal in Edmonton, the appellant (the party appealing) must file a formal application with the Court of Appeal. This application outlines the grounds for the appeal and includes supporting legal arguments. Adhering to specified deadlines is crucial to ensure the case is considered.

With a wealth of knowledge and a track record of success, the Kurie Moore Law Group has handled numerous criminal appeals in Edmonton. We meticulously review case files, identify legal errors, and present compelling arguments to the appellate court. Our goal is to ensure that justice is served and your rights are protected.
