⚖️ Toronto lawyer's license suspended 6 months after she used AI-hallucinated case law — then lied about it. 🤖

The Law Society Tribunal found Mary Hyun-Sook Lee relied on AI-hallucinated case law in an estate matter — then lied about using ChatGPT when asked about it. She's also been ordered to pay $10,000 to the Law Society of Ontario.

This may be the first case in Canada where a license was suspended partly over AI misconduct. 🚫

Lesson for regulated professionals: AI can support your work but verify every output and be transparent about its use. ✅

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE – TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM (LMIA)

The Government of Canada has published the new unemployment rates applicable to low-wage LMIA applications, effective from July 10 to October 8, 2026.

📌 What this means:

In Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) where the unemployment rate is 6% or higher, low-wage LMIA applications may be refused for processing, unless the application qualifies for an exemption under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

📍 Quebec rates:

✅ Saguenay: 3.4%
✅ Quebec City: 4.0%
✅ Sherbrooke: 4.3%
✅ Trois-Rivières: 5.3%
✅ Drummondville: 5.7%

➡️ Employers in these regions may generally continue submitting low-wage LMIA applications, provided they meet all other program requirements.

⚠️ Montreal: 6.8%
⚠️ Ottawa–Gatineau: 6.7%

➡️ Low-wage LMIA applications in these regions remain generally subject to the refusal-to-process measure, unless an exemption applies.

💡 Employers planning to hire a foreign worker, and workers waiting for an LMIA, should verify whether the work location is affected before submitting an application.

Every case is different, and certain exemptions may still allow an application to be processed in a region with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher.

📅 These rates remain in effect until October 8, 2026.
