Today, September 30, Canada marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. The orange shirt recalls the story of Phyllis Webstad. On her first day at residential school, the new shirt her grandmother had bought her was taken away and never returned.
Today, we listen to survivors, remember the children who never came home, and reflect on the lasting harm caused by residential schools. Every Child Matters.
امروز، ۳۰ سپتامبر، در کانادا روز ملی حقیقت و آشتی و روز پیراهن نارنجی است. پیراهن نارنجی یادآور داستان فیلیس وبستاد است؛ پیراهن تازه‌ای که مادربزرگش برای او خریده بود، در نخستین روز حضورش در مدرسه شبانه‌روزی از او گرفتند و هرگز پس ندادند.

امروز به روایت بازماندگان گوش می‌دهیم، یاد کودکانی را که هرگز به خانه بازنگشتند گرامی می‌داریم و درباره آسیب‌های ماندگار این مدارس تأمل می‌کنیم. هر کودکی مهم است.

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of peer mentoring incoming students in Queen’s University’s Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law.

It was a full-circle moment for me, watching new students begin a journey I once began myself and meeting future colleagues who will help shape Canada’s immigration landscape.

A special thank you to Prof. Sharry Aiken and Jan Edward for this opportunity and recognition. I hope I can continue to give back to the Faculty and the professors who gave me the knowledge and confidence to stand up for my clients and be their voice every day.
