Planning to apply for Alberta Entrepreneur programs? This update is worth reviewing before you apply πŸ‘‡

AAIP has provided more detail on how it evaluates whether an entrepreneur applicant’s proposed business can contribute to Alberta’s economy and meet its economic establishment requirements.

πŸ“Œ While the rules themselves have not changed, the added guidance gives applicants a clearer idea of the information AAIP expects when assessing a business proposal and supporting documents.

This is especially important if you’re preparing an application now, as understanding how your business plans will be assessed can help you provide a more complete submission.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ AAIP Update: Alberta Receives 200 Additional Nomination Spaces

IRCC has provided Alberta's Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) with 200 additional nominations for 2026.

This increases Alberta's total nomination allocation from 6,403 to 6,603.

The additional allocation gives Alberta more capacity to:

πŸ‘‰ Address regional labour market needs
πŸ‘‰ Support key provincial priorities
πŸ‘‰ Nominate more eligible candidates for permanent residence

The increase means Alberta has additional nomination spaces available for eligible candidates across its AAIP streams.

Important: More spaces do not mean automatic approval. Candidates must still meet the requirements of the relevant stream and be selected by Alberta.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Planning to Apply Through AAIP? Your eligibility depends on your occupation, work experience, job offer, immigration profile, and the requirements of the specific stream.

🚨 Canada Has Raised the Wage Thresholds for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

Effective July 17, 2026, new hourly wage thresholds are now in effect across Canada, changing how certain jobs are classified under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

Swipe to learn what this means πŸ‘‰

Key updates:

πŸ‘‰ Wage thresholds have increased in most provinces and territories.
πŸ‘‰ In regions with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher, employers generally cannot apply for new low-wage LMIAs or renew existing ones for positions that pay below the new provincial wage threshold.

πŸ“Œ These changes are part of the federal government's ongoing efforts to align the TFWP with labour market conditions while encouraging employers in higher-unemployment areas to hire from the local workforce first.

If you're employer looking to recruit, it's important to understand how these updates could affect your recruitment plans.

πŸ“£ Ontario colleges are struggling to attract international students!

And the reason may go beyond the student cap.

According to data obtained by Global News, many Ontario colleges were unable to fill the international student spaces they were already allocated.

Some key findings:

πŸ“‰ Colleges only used 55% of the Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs) assigned to them.

πŸ“‰ They enrolled just 33% of the students they made offers to.

πŸ“‰ As of June 2025, colleges had used only 46% of the PALs available to them.

Experts suggest that recent policy changes may be influencing student decisions.

One factor frequently cited is the reduction of Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility for certain programs, which may affect how prospective students evaluate their education and career opportunities after graduation.

The data also highlights a growing divide between colleges and universities.

While both have been affected by changes to Canada's international student system, universities have generally been more successful at converting offers into enrolments.

‼️ For students considering Canada, this serves as a reminder that choosing a school today involves more than academics alone.

Many prospective students are now looking closely at:

πŸ‘‰ PGWP eligibility
πŸ‘‰ Career prospects after graduation
πŸ‘‰ Long-term immigration pathways
πŸ‘‰ Overall return on investment

As Canada's international education landscape continues to evolve, understanding these factors may be more important than ever before.
