January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in British Columbia. HSJ Lawyers is grateful to all the incredible dementia caregivers for the important work they do for their families and communities.
One of the kindest things you can do for your loved ones is to have the appropriate legal documents in place before any dementia diagnosis occurs. A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone (your “attorney”) to manage your finances and legal matters in the event of your incapacity. A Representation Agreement allows you to appoint a trusted person (“your representative”) to help make personal care and health care decisions for you if you become mentally incapable.
At HSJ Lawyers, we can help you plan for the unexpected by drafting thorough Estate Planning Documents, so you can choose who manages your life if you can’t. If you would like to book a consultation, please call our Estate Planning Department at (250) 565-8037.
