The Manitoba First Nations Police Service provides First Nations police services by First Nations people. The members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service proudly serve First Nation communities throughout Manitoba. In doing this, we are guided by our understanding that First Nations communities are unique, and their needs vary from community to community. We believe that policing is more than the enforcement of laws. It is also about finding creative ways to deal with the many challenges facing our communities. As a result, our approach to building public safety is rooted in developing meaningful partnerships with stakeholders who share our vision and who represent the community. In all we do, we maintain a deep respect for First Nations customs and traditions, and we have built our processes and policies around these traditions. As a police service, we are held to a high professional standard and are accountable to our governing Police Commission. Our sworn and civilian members have a vested interest in the safety and wellbeing of the 8 First Nation communities currently served by the MFNPS. We are fast becoming the police service of choice for Manitoba’s First Nation communities.

Call for Service Leads to Fi***rm Charges in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a call for service in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation that resulted in the seizure of an illegally possessed fi***rm and am******on, as well as the arrest of one man.

On October 3, 2026, at approximately 12 p.m., MFNPS members responded to a report of intimate partner violence. During the investigation, members ensured the safety and well-being of the victim and arrested the accused for assault-related offences.

As the investigation progressed, police obtained information indicating that the accused was in possession of a fi***rm within the residence.

Members executed a search warrant without incident, during which police seized a 20-gauge sh***un and am******on.

A man from Brokenhead Ojibway Nation was arrested and charged with fi***rms-related offences in addition to the offences arising from the intimate partner violence investigation.

The accused was remanded into custody.

Since this is an intimate partner violence investigation, the name of the accused is not being released to protect the victim’s privacy.

The MFNPS remains committed to addressing intimate partner violence and removing illegally possessed fi***rms from our communities to enhance public safety and reduce the risk of violent crime.

Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Manitoba First Nations Police Service or the MFNPS TIPS Line anonymously at 1-833-978-0048 or by email at [email protected]. The MFNPS TIPS Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is monitored year-round.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service recognizes October 4 as the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people.

Today, we reflect on those who have been taken or remain missing, and we recognize the grief and strength of families and survivors across our nation.

We understand the importance of listening to families, building trust, and taking meaningful action. MFNPS encourages you to learn from and listen to survivors and families of MMIWG2S+.

While today is a day to formally acknowledge these individuals, meaningful action requires year-round commitment to learning, listening, and supporting.

The MFNPS youth programs are off to a great start!

The Sandy Bay Youth Corps and Long Plain Cadet Explorers went on a field trip to Notre Dame to re-connect and enjoy some outdoor fun — and that they had.

There was plenty to enjoy, including corn mazes, a snack shack, a bale pyramid with a slide, a bouncy pillow, and a lookout tower! Even the adults had fun in the maze!

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

Fisher River Cree Nation: The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) conducted a traffic stop in Fisher River Cree Nation, which led to the seizure of suspected crack co***ne and the arrest of two individuals.

On September 20, 2026, at approximately 2 a.m., the MFNPS conducted a traffic stop on a rental vehicle from Winnipeg on Highway 224.

Upon stopping the vehicle, police observed drug paraphernalia and accessible alcohol containers in plain view. The two occupants of the vehicle were then detained for a CDSA drug investigation.

Police discovered an individually packaged substance suspected to be crack co***ne. A further search led to the discovery of other drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking and an alcohol container.

As a result of the investigation:

A man and woman from Fisher River Cree Nation were arrested and charged with Possession for Purpose of Trafficking. The man was additionally charged with Obstruct Peace Officer.

Both individuals were subsequently released on undertakings.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service is committed to removing dangerous drugs from the communities we serve and disrupting those responsible for trafficking them.

Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Manitoba First Nations Police Service or the MFNPS TIPS line anonymously at 1-833-978-0048 or email [email protected]. The MFNPS TIPS line is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year, and is monitored regularly.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service extends its condolences to the Letellier Fire Department following the passing of Fire Chief Andrew Dixon.

Chief Dixon was a familiar face to members of our Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation detachment, as he and his crew responded to fires in the community for many years.

MFNPS valued his commitment to keeping his communities safe. He will be missed.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Chief Dixon's family and the Letellier Fire Department as they navigate this difficult time.

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that the Letellier Fire Department announces the sudden and unexpected passing of our Fire Chief, Andrew Dixon.

Andrew dedicated 19 years of service to the Letellier Fire Department, including 8 years as our Fire Chief. Throughout those years, he gave so much to our department and our community.
Andrew was not only our Chief, but a mentor, a leader, and a friend to so many of us. He played a tremendous role in building and strengthening our department, helping give us the structure and foundation we have today. His knowledge, experience, and wisdom were something we could always count on.

But perhaps what we will remember most was the way he cared about his people. Andrew was often the first to check in, to make sure everyone was okay, both on the fire ground and beyond. He had a kind heart, a genuine concern for others, and a way of making people feel supported and valued.

As we come to terms with this tremendous loss, there are simply no words that feel adequate. We are going to miss his leadership, his wisdom, his humour, his kindness, and his presence around our department more than we can say.

Thank you, Andrew, for 19 years of service, dedication, mentorship, and friendship. Your impact on this department and the people who served alongside you will not be forgotten.
Our deepest condolences go out to Andrew's family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, Chief. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

— The Members of the Letellier Fire Department
