Our office will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2026 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13.

Meet Natashia, one of our fantastic paralegals at Alder Law!

Organized, dependable, and always on top of the details, Natashia is an important part of our team and helps keep things moving behind the scenes for both our lawyers and clients. She’s also one of the faces behind Alder Law’s social media, helping bring a little personality to what you see from us online.

At the end of January, she’ll be celebrating three years with Alder Law! 🤍

When she’s not at the office, you can usually find her watching Formula 1 🏎️, getting lost in a good book 📚, or heading to a Pilates class.

Separating does not necessarily mean that every asset is divided down the middle.

Under B.C.’s Family Law Act, spouses generally share equally in family property acquired during their relationship.

Property owned before the relationship is usually excluded, although an increase in its value during the relationship may be divided.

These rules generally apply to:

• Married spouses
• Unmarried spouses who lived together in a marriage-like relationship for at least two years, also called common law.

Deadlines can apply. A married spouse generally must apply to divide property within two years after a divorce order. An unmarried spouse generally has two years from separation.

Every situation is different. Before selling, transferring, or agreeing to divide major assets, consider obtaining legal advice.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today is a day to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities across Canada.

Truth and reconciliation require more than acknowledgement. They require listening, learning, reflecting, and continuing to educate ourselves about the history and lasting impacts of the residential school system.

We encourage everyone to take time today to learn, listen to Indigenous voices, and reflect on the role we can each play in reconciliation.

Alder Law is closed today as we take time to reflect and observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
