On March 21st of each year, Inclusion Canada joins others in our movement to recognize World Down Syndrome Day. We are proud to mark the immense contributions those with Down Syndrome make to our society.
This year’s theme is “Together Against Loneliness”. Loneliness happens when people are not supported to build and maintain connections with other people. Sometimes, people with Down syndrome can be in the same room as others but still feel lonely.
Being present is not the same as being included.
People can feel lonely even when surrounded by others if they are not truly connected. Loneliness is also caused by stigma and discrimination. Loneliness happens when people are left out of schools, workplaces, and community life.
On this day - and every day - Inclusion Canada is committed to raising awareness about the impacts of such isolation. Join us in making sure people with disabilities full and equal rights and have opportunity to participate in their communities.
Happy World Down Syndrome Day to individuals, families, our supporters and allies throughout Canada!
