We’re pleased to share that Walker Head Lawyers’ Michelle Choi will be presenting at the Ontario Bar Association’s “Litigating Complex Passings of Accounts” program tomorrow.

Passings of accounts can raise complicated issues involving fiduciary obligations, compensation, evidence, limitation periods and contested estate or trust administration.

On Thursday, October 15, Michelle will join the program’s faculty as Ontario trusts and estates practitioners come together for a practical discussion of the issues that can arise in complex passing of accounts matters.

Michelle is an Associate with Walker Head Lawyers and practices in estates and trusts administration, passings of accounts, and estate litigation. She also earned her Trust and Estate Practitioner designation from STEP Canada in 2025.

We are proud to see Michelle sharing her knowledge and experience.

Meet Melania Soudouk, Associate at Walker Head Lawyers.

Melania is a member of the firm’s Estates and Trusts department, where she brings a thoughtful, client-focused approach to matters that can often be highly personal and sensitive.

Her interest in Wills and Estates developed while volunteering with the Pro Bono Students Canada GTA Wills Project, where she assisted with Wills and Powers of Attorney for underserved members of the community. She later became a project leader, working with estates lawyers and law students to help expand access to estate planning services.

Melania earned her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2024 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2025 after completing her articles at a boutique estates firm in Toronto. During law school, she also served as an associate editor of the Osgoode Hall Law Journal and worked as a student caseworker with Parkdale Community Legal Services.

Meet Tim Lee, Associate at Walker Head Lawyers.

Tim practises Family Law and brings additional experience from his background in Employment Law and Civil Litigation.

He articled with Walker Head Lawyers, completing rotations through the Employment and Civil Litigation and Family Law departments before joining the firm following his call to the Bar.

Tim also gained experience with the Family Responsibility Office at the Ministry of the Attorney General and participated in family law focused clinical and pro bono work while attending Western Law.

His broader litigation background gives him additional perspective when assisting clients with the legal and practical issues that can arise during separation and other family law matters.

Outside of his practice, Tim remains involved in the Durham community and serves as a Board Member with the Durham Association for Family Resources and Support.

Can an employer terminate you without cause in Ontario?

In many circumstances, yes.

Ontario's Employment Standards Act does not generally require an employer to provide a reason for terminating employment. However, employers may still have obligations related to notice or termination pay, and some employees may have additional rights depending on their employment agreement and individual circumstances.

There are also important limits. Employment cannot lawfully be terminated for certain prohibited reasons, including reprisals for exercising rights under the Employment Standards Act or reasons relating to discrimination under Ontario human rights law.

Meet Andrew Felker, Partner and Head of the Estates Department at Walker Head Lawyers.

Andrew’s history with Walker Head goes back to the beginning of his legal career. After articling with the firm, he was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993 and went on to become a Partner and Head of the Estates Department.

With more than 30 years of legal experience, Andrew focuses his practice on Wills, Estates and Trusts matters. He is also recognized by the Law Society as a Certified Specialist in Estates and Trusts Law.

Throughout his career, Andrew has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. He also regularly shares his knowledge of Wills and Estates issues through presentations within the local community and for organizations including the Law Society, Ontario Bar Association and Durham Region Law Association.
