Estate Planning Is Changing With the Times.
Ontario amended its Succession Law Reform Act in December 2025 to expressly permit certain beneficiary designations to be made electronically and to address designations made by attorneys or guardians when certain plans are converted, renewed, replaced or transferred.

WHY IT MATTERS: Beneficiary designations can have significant estate consequences. Life changes are a good reason to review not only your Will, but also registered plans, insurance and beneficiary designations.

Buying Your First New Home? A Major Tax Break Is Now Law.
Federal legislation that received Royal Assent in March 2026 eliminates the GST for qualifying first-time buyers on new homes up to $1 million and provides a reduced rebate between $1 million and $1.5 million, potentially worth up to $50,000.

WHY IT MATTERS: The purchase price isn't the only number that matters when buying a newly built home. Knowing which rebates apply can significantly affect the real cost of the transaction.
