This morning, I took the opportunity to wish members of the Masjid Bilal community a happy Eid Al Adha.

One of the things I’ve appreciated most throughout this campaign has been the opportunity to connect with people from so many different backgrounds, faiths, and walks of life across Orléans.

The conversations I’ve had with members of the Masjid Bilal community have been thoughtful, welcoming, and deeply appreciated.

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating today. Wishing you and your families peace, joy, and meaningful time with loved ones.

I was very proud to sponsor the U9 East Ottawa Stars Girls Hockey team this year. They've made a tremendous achievement this year, earning a silver medal in the regional championship. In addition, for the first time in years, this team registered in the highest caliber (U9A - the highest for that age group) at the Ontario provincials in Toronto and succeeded by winning 2 games against the top tier teams of the province.

These girls played their hearts out and proved lots of resilience and effort. I look forward to continuing to support them as they pursue our great game!

Huge shoutout to our amazing EO U9 sponsors! Your support powered our young athletes all season long — helping them grow, learn, and play the game they love with confidence and heart. As we wrap up an incredible year on and off the ice, we want to say THANK YOU to our sponsors for encouraging girls in sports in our community. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Also, a big thank you to bloomhockeytraining for getting these girls game ready. 💪

BREAKING NEWS: municipal candidate for Ward 1 (Orléans East-Cumberland) Sherif Rizk has suffered from a torn foot ligament due to his ongoing effort to knock on every door in Ward 1.

Despite this, Rizk says he will not be stopping his campaign, and is expected to continue canvassing as planned.

“I have no intention of slowing down. My team and I are going forward and we will keep knocking on doors” Rizk said.

In many ways, Orléans today reminds me of where my law school was when I served as President of the Common Law Students’ Society at the University of Ottawa.

Students felt disconnected from the decisions affecting their daily experience, and there was a growing sense that important problems were not being addressed proactively.

That’s why I ran for student president.

During my term, I helped create a student-led “Student Experience Task Force” that brought students together to identify problems and develop practical recommendations to improve student life at the Faculty of Law. Many of those recommendations continued impacting students for years afterward.

Around the same time, the Law Society of Ontario significantly increased licensing fees for students entering the profession. I helped lead the effort to establish the Law Students’ Society of Ontario so students across the province could organize, advocate effectively, and push for change together.

Those experiences taught me something important: institutions work best when leadership listens, plans ahead, and brings people together to solve problems before frustration turns into disillusionment.

That’s the same approach I want to bring to City Hall.

I believe Orléans deserves proactive leadership that listens to residents, anticipates challenges, and works collaboratively to build a stronger future for our community.

Two LRT lines down in the same weekend.

At some point, Ottawa residents deserve answers and a city that plans ahead instead of constantly reacting after things start falling apart.

In this reel, I break down what transit workers say is really happening behind the scenes at OC Transpo, and why better planning at City Hall matters more than ever.

Did you know that Queen Victoria was a linguist? She spoke fluent English and German, and studied other languages, too, including French, Italian and Latin. Later in life, she also learnt the Indian language of Hindustani. Ruling for over 60 years, Queen Victoria would become the longest reigning British Monarch, until the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Happy Victoria Day!

*****

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of Canada has recognized a new tort of intimate partner violence. It gives survivors a clearer and more direct legal pathway to seek financial damages tied specifically to intimate partner violence.

In Canada, the number one reason for women’s homelessness is intimate partner violence.

In March 2023, city council declared intimate partner violence (IPV) an epidemic. IPV continues to cause deep harm to our city. We all have a responsibility to recognize that this crisis is happening around us - often silently. Reports of IPV continue to climb steadily year over year. In Ottawa, there is an average of 21 calls per day made to police related to IPV. Women have the right to a life free of threats, intimidation and abuse. IPV is not a private matter; it is a community issue and a public safety issue. Integrating intimate partner violence into the city’s community safety and well-being plan is essential.

If you suspect someone in your life may be experiencing IPV, please check in. Your concern may be the help they need to find safety.

Happy birthday to my little lady, the sunshine on my cloudy day. You’ve grown so much right before my eyes, and you’ve amazed me with how bright, thoughtful, caring you are to those around you. May you continue to grow and be the light that can change this world for the better. Daddy loves you!

Where would we be without our mothers?

They say motherhood is not just a word, but a verb. It is an act of love, sacrifice, patience, and devotion that shapes both children and mothers alike.

I’m incredibly grateful for the mothers in my life and for everything they have done to shape the person I am today.

To all the mothers who continue to guide, support, and inspire the next generation: thank you, and Happy Mother’s Day!

*****
