Accident witnesses disappear fast. Before they walk away, get a name and number. A stranger who saw what happened is often the most credible voice in your case, and the most overlooked. Don't wait for the police report to do the work. One conversation at the scene could be the difference between winning and losing your claim.

Spring roads can be unpredictable. Rain, potholes, cyclists, and sudden weather changes all increase accident risks. Slow down on wet roads, leave extra braking distance, check your tires after winter wear, and stay alert for pedestrians and motorcycles returning to the roads. A few extra seconds of caution can prevent serious injuries and keep everyone safer this season.

Tune into next week with Ottawa in the Know’s Julie Findlay, as she interviews David.

They will be discussing Ottawa’s growing network of bike lanes and multi-use pathways, and the positive role they play in making our city more active, accessible, and environmentally friendly.

As more people use these lanes, it’s increasingly important for everyone on the road, which includes drivers, scooters, cyclists, and pedestrians to understand their responsibilities and remain aware of one another.

Safety depends on mutual respect, attention, and following the rules of the road.

Ultimately, the goal is to encourage a culture of awareness and cooperation so that everyone can enjoy Ottawa’s roads and pathways safely.
