Many people in Ottawa have pensions and severance benefits. When you separate as married spouses, these assets are considered to be property. As such, they are subject to division under the Ontario Family Law Act. In most cases, this property will be equally divided. However, there are exceptional circumstances where there may be an unequal division of property.
