Can you bring your whole family along for the ride to Canada? 🇨🇦🐴

If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor certain family members for Canadian permanent residence.

Here’s who may qualify:

🐴 Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
Your spouse or partner may be sponsored to become a permanent resident of Canada.

👨‍👩‍👧 Dependent children
You may be able to sponsor your biological or adopted child, or your spouse or partner’s child, if they meet the definition of a dependent child.

👵 Parents and grandparents
Canadian citizens and permanent residents may be eligible to sponsor their parents or grandparents, subject to the program’s requirements.
IRCC has currently paused the intake of new Parents and Grandparents Program applications.

🐴 Certain other relatives — but only in very specific circumstances
There are limited provisions that may allow sponsorship of an orphaned sibling, niece, nephew or grandchild, or another relative in certain exceptional family circumstances.

Family sponsorship is not one-size-fits-all. Your relationship, your status in Canada, your income, where you live, your family history and other circumstances can affect whether sponsorship is available.

And if you're an equestrian moving to Canada, your ability to bring your family can play an important role.
