Bell Let's Talk Day is Wednesday January 29, 2020. So let's talk about what Bell can do to help with Mental Health. Inmates in Ontario jails can only reach their FAMILIES and their LAWYERS by calling collect. Each local call costs $1.00 - and that's only for 20 minutes. While long distance calls are much more - think $1/minute. And this only works if the person being called has a landline. Cell phones can't accept collect calls. How many people do you know who ONLY have a cell phone. For someone already dealing with mental health issues, not having those connections can severely exacerbate their situation. Most of the people in jail are awaiting trial - so they're PRESUMED INNOCENT. Is this the way society treats the innocent? Cut them off from their families unless their families can pay the high phone bills? What about the stress that causes to the friends and family on the outside? Just because you support someone in jail, does not mean you are defending the crime they are accused of committing. It's time for Bell to stop charging for phone calls from jails. Let the inmates call their lawyers and families so they can get the support they need so that when they come out (because they will come out some day) they are mentally healthier and better prepared to re-engage with society in a positive, pro-social way. Please consider signing this position to tell Bell to practice what they preach LET them TALK!

301 signatures are needed to reach the next milestone!

Our office is participating in the Barristers for a Better Bytown "Ottawa Law Holiday Food Drive Challenge". We have been challenged by another law office to see which firm can be the most generous at this time of year. There are certain items being sought on different days. If you'd like to help, please stop by our office and we'll be happy to add your donation to the cause. Here is what we are looking for:

Elgin Street will reopen to two-way traffic Monday, Dec. 16, after almost a full year of being shut down for a makeover.OC Transpo routes 5, 14 and 114 that were detoured during the closure will al…
