The Chamber of Marine Commerce is applauding the start of a federal engagement process announced May 8th that will enable feedback that will inform federal government efforts to update legislation in ways that benefit Canadians businesses, workers, and consumers.

“This engagement demonstrates a clear understanding by the Government of Canada that the success of supply chains and the success of the economy are deeply intertwined, and when supply chains are strengthened, opportunity grows from coast to coast to coast,” noted Joshua H. Juel, President and CEO of the Chamber of Marine Commerce. “The Chamber of Marine Commerce encourages all of our Canadian-based members to participate in this process, as we identify regulatory, workforce development, and investment opportunities that will yield significant benefits for generations to come.”

The CMC was pleased to spend time last week with Mayor Lew Conner of the City of Two Harbors, Minnesota. The city has a compelling vision for its breathtaking waterfront that balances public access, environmental restoration, historic preservation, and commercial shipping. We also appreciate Mayor Conner's robust support of Great Lakes shipping ⚓

Fun fact: Millions of tons of Minnesota iron ore are shipped from Two Harbors every year, making it a critical link in North American production of steel 🔗
