Let's talk about yesterday for a moment.

Yesterday, we sorted food at the Ottawa Food Bank, and it was one of the nicest experiences we have had volunteering.

The people were friendly, and there was a sense of peace there that I can't quite explain. I left feeling like I needed to come back, to keep giving my time to families who really need it.

Listen, we sell homes. Homes that families live in, create memories in, and build lives in. Not all of those times are easy, and I recognized that before, but after yesterday, I realize it more than ever.

The ever-so-kind magician, we decided to nickname him that after he claimed to be able to figure out what was in unlabelled cans to trick us, who led us through the day was amazing. He said one line that may have been my tipping point:

"We don't just give people food, we want to help give them dignity."

Oh, that landed. Hard.

There is so much room for giving. There is so much space in your heart, more than you know.

Whoever you choose to give your time to, and if you don't have time and are donating, know that you are light in human form.

Ottawa Food Bank, I cannot thank you enough for yesterday because, as much as you think we helped you, I think you heal little pieces of us.

And as a side note, did you know the hardest donation to get is baby items?

Tuck that nugget away for future you.

Meet Jonathan. 👋

Real estate has been part of Jonathan’s life for almost as long as he can remember.

When he was just four years old, he would tag along to open houses with his Realtor grandmother. While most kids that age were probably more interested in snacks or toys, Jonathan was quietly taking in the conversations, the homes, and the way people searched for the right place to build their life.

Funny enough, real estate wasn’t always the plan.

Jonathan originally thought about becoming a police officer, following in the footsteps of his father, who was the Chief in nearby Gananoque. But after working in retail sales, he discovered how much he enjoyed helping people, answering questions, and providing the kind of service that makes someone feel looked after.

That eventually brought him back to real estate.

Today, one of the things Jonathan enjoys most about the job is that no two days are ever the same. One day he may be helping a seller prepare a listing, and the next he may be out with buyers, walking through homes and helping them sort through the details.

There are a lot of moving pieces in real estate, and Jonathan takes pride in keeping things calm, organized, and on track.

His biggest piece of advice for buyers?

Speak with a mortgage broker before you start seriously looking at homes.

It may not be the flashiest part of the process, but it can save a lot of stress. Knowing your budget early helps you shop with more confidence and avoid falling in love with homes that are outside your price range.

Clients are often surprised to learn that Jonathan is a Type 1 diabetic, so if you ever see him testing his blood sugar or reaching for a juice box during a showing or appointment, now you know. It’s simply part of his day.

And when he’s not helping clients, you may find him back at the rink, sharing his love of hockey as a volunteer minor hockey coach.

At the heart of it, Jonathan wants people to know that reaching out doesn’t have to feel intimidating.

Sometimes, it’s just a conversation.
