We are hiring an associate! My entirely biased view is that we have a great thing going ... a great team, interesting work, and great relationships with other members of the local labour and employment law bar. If you are interested, or know someone who might be the right fit, please reach out to me directly.

Sevigny Dupuis LLP, a leading boutique labour and employment law firm in Ottawa, is growing, and we are looking to add a full-time associate lawyer to our dynamic team of five (5) lawyers.

Not many lawyers can boast that they have practiced law successfully for 50 years. This summer our very own Wally Langley celebrated this important milestone. Naturally, we wanted to celebrate this significant achievement! Cheers to 50 years Mr. Langley, and to many more!

We are very pleased to welcome Amelia Cooke back from her maternity leave today. She will be looking forward to reconnecting with clients, and colleagues in the labour and employment bar in the coming weeks as she gets back into the swing of things. Welcome back Amelia!

Last week one of our associates, Noah Houlton, presented to a group of managers employed by one of the firm's clients, about employee rights and employer responsibilities under the Employment Standards Act ("ESA"), among other topics. Are your managers familiar with the ESA? If not, they should be, and we can help! It is a great way to avoid HR issues.

Are you an employer with 25+ employees. If so, you should have October 11, 2022 on your radar as the deadline to implement a written policy on electronic monitoring of your employees. More on the requirement here: https://www.ontario.ca/document/your-guide-employment-standards-act-0/written-policy-electronic-monitoring-employees?fbclid=IwAR1ByfujD8i-eg7MR_BL7Y9NY4jx8E_Dd9snjo2xm7T2tyBiW-hm2MaLUUY

Feel free to contact one of our lawyers if you have questions about the content of your policy, or what may or may not be permissible from a monitoring standpoint.

Know your rights and obligations under the Employment Standards Act (ESA). This guide describes the rules about minimum wage, hours of work limits, termination of employment, public holidays, pregnancy and parental leave, severance pay, vacation and more.

In contrast to the "quiet quitting" trend, an increasing number of employees appear to be taking on two full-time positions. If you are an employer dealing with this issue, or an employee considering doing it, you likely need some advice before hand. Employers, you can prevent this in your employment contract. Employees, you need to be aware of what your contract says so you don't find yourself out of two jobs if you get caught.

In contrast to the quiet quitting trend that is compelling millions of workers to deprioritize their careers and only do the bare minimum required at work, another workplace phenomenon has emerged in the pandemic, one that sees many work multiple jobs remotely at the same time — without their boss...

Today Marie Dupuis enjoyed presenting to participants of the 8 Minute Employment Lawyer about recent developments in federal employment law.

Quick fact from the presentation: Did you know that there is now a federal minimum wage that applies to federally regulated employers and that it is higher than the minimums of most Canadian provinces and territories.
