Ontario has announced plans to launch a public provincial website listing high-risk offenders, including high-risk s*x offenders, when a police chief issues a community notification.

The measure is part of the proposed Protecting Ontario's Streets and Communities Act, 2026, and raises important questions about offender rights, privacy, and due process under Canadian law.

The Ford government is looking to launch a public website about high-risk offenders, one of several measures in proposed legislation.

Peel Regional Police have laid more than 100 criminal charges in connection with one of the largest extortion investigations in the region's history.

The investigation launched in December 2025 and expanded into an international effort, pulling in partnerships with the Surrey Police Service in British Columbia, the Canadian Border Services Agency, and the FBI. Investigators targeted an organized ring responsible for a surge of targeted threats, coercion, and financial extortion across multiple jurisdictions.

Peel Regional Police have laid more than 100 criminal charges in what investigators say is one of the largest extortion cases the region has ever seen.

The Supreme Court of Canada’s recent ruling in R. v. Singer clarifies the limits of police powers on private property. The Court found that while officers can enter a driveway to speak with someone, opening a car door without a warrant or an emergency violates Charter rights.

However, the Court also confirmed that a rights violation does not automatically lead to evidence being thrown out. Judges must still weigh the seriousness of the police error against the public interest in the case.

Our latest blog post breaks down this decision and what it means for your privacy rights during a police investigation: https://ow.ly/Z99150YQxwF
