Bank of Canada Update

The Bank of Canada held its key interest rate at 2.25%, but warned inflation could rise again due to higher oil and natural gas prices linked to the war in Iran. The Bank dropped the rate a quarter point in October, but held in December, and again in January.

Here’s what’s happening

• Inflation dropped to 1.8% in February, but may increase short term
• Unemployment rose to 6.7%
• Rising energy prices could squeeze household budgets

Raise rates → fight inflation but hurt growth
Lower rates → support economy but risk higher inflation

📅 The Bank of Canada will announce it’s next rate decision on April 29th
