Meet our Associate, Laura Pilon! Laura re-joined our firm in January 2021.

Laura had previously completed her Law Practice Program practicum with our firm from January to June of 2017 and has since been practicing as a Family Law lawyer in Ottawa. We are excited to be able to welcome her back to our team.

Laura brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in both family litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, including Mediation.

Meet Steve, Barrister & Solicitor extraordinaire:

Steve has been practicing as a lawyer full-time since his call to the Bar in June 2010. Steve started his career working in a busy downtown Ottawa firm which gave him the opportunity to quickly gain practical experience as a courtroom litigator in criminal defence matters and family court proceedings.

Steve launched Duplain Law in June 2016 and has continued to successfully represent hundreds of clients from all walks of life in family law and child protection. He has also drafted numerous wills and powers of attorney in French and English, as well as a variety of other notarial documents his clients promptly required.

​Steve represents clients with attention and dedication. Steve has proven to have a strong work ethic and to appreciate the value of creative solutions to legal problems.

Over the years, Steve has also specialized in representing many clients who have experienced or witnessed abuse and others who have had experience with addiction and mental health issues in their families. Steve views the legal process as one through which vulnerable clients can ultimately achieve personal empowerment and work on finding the best path through which to move forward in their own life.

More recently, Steve has completed advanced training in Family Mediation and offers these services in both official languages of Canada.

Meet Chelsea, our paralegal:

Chelsea joined Duplain Law as a paralegal in November of 2016. She has been a licensed paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario since 2015.

​Chelsea began her studies at Carleton University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Law in 2014. She proceeded to enroll at Fanshawe College located in London, Ontario, receiving an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in the Paralegal Program in 2015.

Prior to joining Duplain Law, Chelsea worked at a paralegal firm in Hamilton, Ontario, representing injured workers. She passionately advocated for her client’s rights to benefits, appearing before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board as well as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.

Chelsea assists with the day-to-day operations of Duplain Law. She effectively communicates with clients to ensure all of their questions and concerns are addressed. Chelsea also assists in litigation work, including court materials and trial work.

Chelsea is a compassionate and effective communicator who assists in coordinating resources and helping clients to prepare for their matters after they receive legal advice from Mr. Duplain. She understands the challenges that separation and family court proceedings can pose, and is mindful the unique needs of clients and their families.

​Outside of work, Chelsea enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her three pets: her chocolate lab, Carleton, her tabby, Precious, and her parrotlet, Jimmy.
