06/02/2026
July 1, 2026. Mark the date.
Ontario’s accident benefits are changing — and most drivers have no idea what they’re losing.
What stays mandatory:
✅ Medical
✅ Rehabilitation
✅ Attendant care
What becomes OPTIONAL (you have to ask for it):
❌ Income replacement
❌ Caregiver benefits
❌ Non-earner benefits
❌ Housekeeping & home maintenance
❌ Death & funeral benefits
❌ Lost educational expenses
Translation: if you click “accept” on your renewal without reading it, you may have just signed away the benefits your family would rely on if you can’t work after a crash.
Cyclists and pedestrians — pay attention. Optional benefits will be restricted to the named insured, spouse, dependants, and listed drivers. Struck by a car? You may get medical coverage. You may get nothing for lost income.
Before July 1:
→ Read your policy
→ Talk to your broker
→ Opt into the coverages you actually need
→ Increase your liability limits
