🚗 DISTINCTIONS: Following Too Closely or Tailgating

Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, there are two provisions to know:

🔹 Section 158(1) – Following Too Closely
The driver of a motor vehicle or a street car must maintain a reasonable and safe distance from the vehicle ahead, considering speed, traffic, and road conditions.

🔹 Section 158(2) – Commercial Motor Vehicles
Commercial motor vehicle drivers travelling at more than 60 km/h must generally maintain at least 60 metres behind another vehicle, except when overtaking and passing.

🚛 Ontario Introduces New Training Standards for Truck Drivers

Ontario is introducing a new standardized curriculum for truck drivers, with greater focus on areas such as fatigue management, rural driving and road safety.

Changes to commercial driver training can have an impact on everyone who shares Ontario’s roads. It’s an important development for drivers, trucking professionals and road users alike.

The changes are expected to roll out in early 2027, with the goal of strengthening commercial driver training and road safety across the province.

Our government is strengthening road safety across Ontario by enhancing training and eligibility requirements for new commercial vehicle drivers.

Changes include developing a new standard entry-level truck driver curriculum and a 6-month waiting period between a Class G licence and the Class A road test effective Jan. 1, 2027.

🎒 Back to School Means Busier Roads 🚗📚

With students heading back to school, drivers across North York, Toronto and the GTA can expect more pedestrians, school buses, busy school zones and parents dropping off and picking up children.

A good reminder to slow down, stay alert and give yourself a little extra time during the morning and afternoon rush. Traffic tickets can happen quickly when drivers are distracted or rushing.
