My famous rake got a good workout doing trail work at Manning Park's Skagit Bluff Trail May 23-24 with the BC Backcountry Horsemen group organized by Kelley Cook. That's her agenda in the photos! For the first time, I had backup with another raker, Vic, and it was 100% better! Raking reduces the risk of turning an ankle (on cones) and removes flammable debris. We did about 3 km and there's about another 3.5 km to do so if you want to help, I can work around your schedule when I go back out again.
The rake is super lightweight and extendable.

Speaking of volunteers, it was great to see that Alaia got recognized by the District of North Vancouver in their Community Report for Spring 2026! She is an amazing volunteer, so involved in community, including races! Congrats. Ali Cherif

After that crazy wind last night, a few trees came down in North Vancouver. First time I've seen trees like this near Rice Lake (in LSCR). I felt like I should have carried my trail work tools!

Has anyone done Nova Scotia trails on the coast between Halifax and Yarmouth? I'm going out there early October and I want to add a scenic trail to my trip. The route can be any trail on that coast and needs to be fairly close to either Halifax or Yarmouth (and doesn't need to travel all the way from Halifax to Yarmouth).

Good news. Rick Arikado has connected with RCMP and is safe. Here is a photo of him helping do an orientation run for racers who weren't familiar with the Fat Dog 120 route in 2016.

Readers may have noticed a recent post by our friends at Squamish Search and Rescue about a rescue they did over the weekend on the Chief. That rescue was disrupted by the (illegal) flight of a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS - a drone) - https://www.facebook.com/ssarteam/posts/727920886412045

"During the rescue, a drone was flown dangerously close to our team and the helicopter - between loads. It only moved away after being signaled to leave the area."

Drone use around active SAR rescues and training events, and the risk it posts, is always a concern for North Shore Rescue. This is especially the case given our frequent use of helicopters. It is a matter of safety for rescuers, our subjects, and the public we serve. Given the recent attention, we thought it prudent to do a specific post of our own .

We will not discuss drones >250g. Those larger drones are subject to a host of Transport Canada pilot licencing and RPAS regulation, on top of what we mention below. Rather, this post will focus on

Lynn Headwaters Regional Park bridge near the top parking lot is closed for maintenance this week, April 7-11. But you can still access Short and Long Lynn Loop Trails by diverting via Varley Trail and Pipeline Bridge up to the gazebo, or parking over at LSCR and coming over the LSCR Connector that goes by Rice Lake.
Long Lynn Loop also has a bridge on Headwaters Trail that is closed and they recommend you don't cross during or after heavy rain.
Backcountry isn't open yet.
