On June 1st, 1986 John Lakes and James Straith opened their law firm at 202- 1217 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, joined some time after by Bill Rodgers. Over the last 1/3rd of a century the firm has evolved, moved twice and now is known as Lakes, Whyte LLP. Throughout that time, North Shore people and businesses have entrusted our lawyers and staff to assist them with their legal matters. We thank our North Shore neighbours for putting their faith in our local law firm. Lakes, Whyte LLP looks forward to providing legal services to the people and businesses of the North Shore for many years to come

“One of the most important things”: Young adults urged to make a will. Young parents should appoint guardians for their children in their wills, and should also establish trusts in their wills to avoid having the Public Guardian and Trustee being appointed to manage funds for their minor chldren.

On November 28, 2016, British Columbia will transition to a new Societies Act. This new legislation will affect how non-profits operate and a simple transition application will need to be filed. Existing non-profits should consider how changes may affect them, and take this opportunity to review their constitution and bylaws.

The Real Estate Council of British Columbia has announced new rules regarding assignments of real estate purchase and sale contracts. These new rules will take effect on May 16, 2016, and will require clauses to be included in all standard contracts, which will effectively prevent assignments.
