This could be especially important for students facing an upcoming semester start, as standard processing times for proof of citizenship applications can be lengthy.

Applicants requesting urgent processing should provide supporting documentation, such as a letter of acceptance and evidence of their educational deadline. Urgent processing is not guaranteed, and each request is assessed by IRCC.

🇨🇦 New Pathway to Permanent Residence for Francophone Students

Canada has opened a new intake under the Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot (FMCSP) — offering eligible French-speaking international students a pathway from studying in Canada to permanent residence.

Applications opened August 26, 2026, with up to 2,970 applications being accepted.

Eligible students can:
🇨🇦 Study at a participating institution outside Quebec
🇫🇷 Meet the French-language requirement of NCLC 5
🎓 Complete an eligible program of at least 2 years
🏡 Apply for permanent residence after graduation
👨‍👩‍👧 Include eligible family members

This could be an excellent option for French-speaking students planning their future in Canada.

🇨🇦 Canada’s Express Entry pool is shrinking — but competition at the top is getting tougher.

IRCC’s latest Express Entry data shows that the pool decreased by 2,241 candidates, falling from 229,100 to 226,859 candidates between August 3 and August 16.

However, there’s an important trend behind the overall decline: the number of candidates with CRS scores of 601–1,200 increased to 20,205.

During this period, IRCC also issued 8,807 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) across several draws, including:

🔹 Canadian Experience Class
🔹 French-language proficiency
🔹 Provincial Nominee Program
🔹 Transport occupations

The latest figures highlight why candidates shouldn’t focus solely on their overall CRS score. Category-based selection continues to play an important role, potentially creating opportunities for candidates who qualify for targeted categories.

🇨🇦 Canada Updates Permanent Residence & Citizenship Processing Times

IRCC has released its latest processing-time update, and the picture is mixed for applicants across Canada’s immigration system.

📉 Some processing times have improved:
• Federal Skilled Worker Program: 6 months, down from 7
• Citizenship renunciation: 4 months, down from 7
• Parents & Grandparents Program: 29 months, down slightly from 30

📈 Others have increased or remain lengthy:
• Base PNP: 13 months, up from 12
• Spousal sponsorship outside Quebec: 17 months
• Spousal sponsorship inside Canada: 27 months
• Parents & Grandparents Program: 29 months
• Start-Up Visa and Self-Employed Persons Program: 10+ years

📢 Important Family Sponsorship Update 🇨🇦

IRCC has paused the intake of new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) until further notice.

This means Canadian citizens and permanent residents will not currently be able to submit a new interest-to-sponsor form or receive an invitation to apply. Existing applications will continue to be processed.

The Super Visa remains an alternative for eligible parents and grandparents who wish to visit family in Canada for extended periods.
