Got a DUI or criminal charge from 10, 15, even 20 years ago? Think it doesn’t matter anymore? 👀

It does.

Canada does not “forget” old criminal records at the border the way many people assume. Even decades-old offences can still impact your ability to enter the country.

🚫 Past DUI or charges can still show up

⚠️ Clean life today doesn’t automatically mean admissibility

🛂 Border decisions are made case by case at entry

Many people rebuild their lives—career, family, stability—only to be turned away at the border because of something that happened years ago.

There *is* a legal process designed for situations like this: Criminal Rehabilitation.

📄 Permanent resolution of inadmissibility (when eligible)

🛣️ A pathway to entering Canada legally

At the Canadim Law Firm, we help individuals assess their situation and navigate the proper legal channels.

Thinking of coming to Canada for a concert or festival? Read this first 👀

If you have a criminal record, you could be denied entry at the border—even if you already have tickets, hotels booked, and travel plans set.

🎟️ Event tickets don’t guarantee entry into Canada

🏨 Non-refundable travel costs can be lost instantly

🚫 Border officers make the final decision upon arrival

Many travelers don’t find out until they’re already at the border, leading to missed events, cancelled plans, and wasted expenses.

If you’ve ever been concerned about admissibility, it’s important to understand your options before you travel 👌

⚠️ IRCC has suspended an undisclosed number of citizenship certificates issued under Canada's new citizenship by descent rules and is conducting additional reviews on some approved applications.

The situation is a reminder that qualifying for citizenship by descent is only part of the process and that proving your claim with the right documentation is just as important.

The US let Breel Embolo in. Canada might not.

While the football world moved on after the Swiss striker's last-minute US visa approval, a bigger immigration story went unnoticed.

Switzerland plays Canada in Vancouver on June 24, and Canada's criminal inadmissibility rules are a completely different animal.

Embolo's 2018 conviction for making threats, finalized just weeks before the World Cup, would likely be assessed under Canadian law as Uttering Threats or Intimidation. Both are hybrid offences that can make a foreign national inadmissible to Canada.

Canada eased some FIFA-related rules but criminal admissibility is not on that list.

This isn't just a story about one footballer. Every year, foreign nationals try to enter Canada with records they don't realize are a problem. If you're planning to attend a World Cup match in Vancouver or Toronto and have a criminal record, don't wait until you're at the border.

Could one DUI put your immigration status at risk? 👀

Many people don’t realize that a DUI can have consequences that go far beyond a driver’s license. Depending on your immigration status and the facts of your case, a single charge could impact future applications, travel, or even your ability to remain in the country.

If you have a Canadian grandparent or great-grandparent, you might have more options than you think. 👀

In certain cases involving Canadian citizenship by descent, people may be eligible to explore a second citizenship based on family lineage—even if they were born outside of Canada.

These rules can be complex and depend heavily on your family history and the specific legal requirements in place at the time of application. Many people don’t realize they may qualify until they take a closer look 👌

The biggest mistake after a DUI isn’t the charge itself—it’s waiting too long to get legal advice. 👀

Many people assume they have time to deal with a DUI later. However, for immigrants, the decisions made in the days and weeks following an arrest can have a significant impact on future immigration opportunities.

⚖️ DUI charges

🛂 Immigration consequences

📋 Visa, PR, and citizenship concerns

What may seem like a simple plea agreement could have long-term effects on your immigration status. Understanding all of your options early can make a meaningful difference in protecting your future 👌

Your ancestor was Canadian born in Ontario. Or Québec. Or Nova Scotia.

They crossed the border, built a life in the United States, and raised a family.

And somewhere along the way, their citizenship, and your birthright, got left behind. That just changed.

Canada's Bill C-3, which came into effect in December 2025, removed the generational limit on citizenship by descent. If you have a Canadian grandparent or great-grandparent, you may already be a Canadian citizen.

And when you claim it, you can pass it down to your children and grandchildren.

Here's what that actually means for them:

📚 Domestic university tuition (~$7,700/yr) instead of international rates (~$41,700/yr)
🏢 The right to live and work in Canada without a permit
🍁 One of the world's most powerful passports
