🚨 NEW CANADA LMIA UPDATE 🇨🇦

Employers with multiple work locations need to know about this change.

For the low-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, the small-employer calculation now looks at employers with fewer than 10 employees at a given work location.

What could that mean? 👇

📍 Where the 10% cap applies, the calculation can allow for 1 low-wage temporary foreign worker.

📍 Where the 20% cap applies, it can allow for 2 low-wage temporary foreign workers.

For businesses operating multiple smaller locations, this change could affect how the low-wage TFW cap is calculated at each location.

⚠️ This does not mean every employer can automatically hire additional foreign workers. Other TFWP and LMIA requirements and restrictions still apply.

🚨 WORK PERMIT UPDATE IN CANADA 🇨🇦: 60 DAYS → 90 DAYS

IRCC has extended the processing grace period from 60 to 90 days for certain work permit extension applications requiring concurrent processing and eligible for processing without an LMIA.

What does this mean? 👇

For applications that meet these conditions, a decision will generally not be made until 90 days have passed from the date IRCC received the application.

IRCC has also introduced a new client process to help applicants identify when their application requires concurrent processing.

⚠️ Important: This does not mean that every work permit application now has a 90-day processing time. The change applies to specific applications and circumstances.

🇨🇦 Canada has admitted 155,800 new permanent residents in the first half of 2026.

But what does that number actually tell us about Canada’s 2026 immigration plans?

Canada’s full-year target is 380,000 permanent residents. Admissions can vary throughout the year and across different immigration categories, so this number alone doesn’t tell us whether PR is becoming easier or harder.

The important thing is to understand where the admissions are coming from and how Canada’s immigration targets are being implemented.

Important: A CRS score of 382 alone was not enough. Candidates also needed to meet the French-language category requirements.
