Important Update on Low-Wage LMIA Applications
As of April 4, 2025, the Government of Canada has paused the processing of low-wage Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) in 24 census metropolitan areas where unemployment is 6 percent or higher. This policy will remain in effect until July 10, 2025.
Some of the impacted regions include Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, and Vancouver.
For employers, this means low-wage LMIA applications will not be processed in these areas during this period. One option is to consider increasing the wage to qualify under the high-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
For foreign nationals with job offers under the low-wage stream, it’s essential to confirm whether your job location falls within a restricted region. If it does, you may want to explore other eligible CMAs or speak with your employer about possible adjustments.
At Kaizon Immigration Inc, we help both employers and applicants navigate these kinds of changes. We’re committed to providing clear guidance and strategic support throughout your immigration journey.
