๐จ IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION UPDATE: Temporary Suspension & Pause on Applications from Selected Regions ๐จ
The Government of Canada has announced decisive temporary border and immigration measures to address the evolving Ebola disease outbreak in Central Africa.
๐
Effective Date: May 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM EDT
โณ Duration: Next 90 days (subject to ongoing review)
What you need to know:
1๏ธโฃ Suspension of Travel Documents: Canada is temporarily suspending immigration documents for residents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan. This includes previously approved Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), Electronic Travel Authorizations (eTAs), Study Permits, Work Permits, and Permanent Resident Visas. Travel to Canada under these suspended documents is paused during this period.
2๏ธโฃ Pause on Application Decisions: Final decisions on new and pending applications from residents of these three countries will be temporarily paused.
3๏ธโฃ Who is NOT affected? If you are already inside Canada, your status is not impacted, and processing for in-Canada applications remains active. Travelers who are currently mid-transit are also exempt from this sudden suspension.
Additional Quarantine Measures:
Starting May 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM EDT, any Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or exempt individuals returning to Canada who have traveled to the affected regions within the last 21 days will be required to undergo health screenings and complete a mandatory 21-day quarantine.
At Aviraj Immigration Services Inc., we understand that sudden policy changes can be stressful for applicants and their families. Rest assured, this is a temporary preventative health measure and not a permanent visa cancellation. Once the suspension period lifts, valid unaffected documents will be reactivated automatically.
If your application or travel plans are impacted by this announcement, our team is here to guide you through the next steps and help adjust your timeline.
