❌ Myth: If you applied for Spousal Sponsorship, your partner CANNOT get a Visitor Visa.
👉 Fact: They absolutely can. It’s called Dual Intent.
I recently consulted with a newly married couple facing a heartbreaking situation. The husband was here in Canada, and his wife was stuck back home. Their Spousal Sponsorship application was taking much longer than expected, and they felt completely hopeless.
They had no idea that a pending PR application doesn’t automatically mean a Visitor Visa will be refused.
Under Canadian law, your spouse can genuinely intend to visit you temporarily while also planning to stay long-term once PR is approved. However, the Visitor Visa is still assessed separately. It must be prepared perfectly to prove they still meet all standard visitor requirements.
If your husband or wife is stuck waiting overseas while your PR application processes, you might have another option to reunite sooner.
